The Diaries of a White Mamma

(a re-occurring post about my journey as a white woman parenting a non-white child)

Caleb's hair is OUT. OF. CONTROL. There is no other way to say it. I love his beautiful afro, and his daddy is quite jealous at the amount of hair that he has, but this white mamma, has NO idea how to "do" this do.

Advice? What products should we use? How often should we wash it?

Yes my sister is the mother of a little black boy too and she is also a hair dresser. She said to wash every other day...use a detangler with a wide tooth comb...and scrunch hand lotion into his hair. Or you could cut it short and it will look clean cut and kept.

Well as a hair fanatic I spend much time in the hair product sections of beauty store and I may be able to help :) They actually have many products out for his hair. Go to any beauty store like Ulta or Sallys and go in the shampoo and conditioner section and see what they have to offer.

For now try washing his hair at most every other day, it will be easier to tame if it has more natural oils in it, and when you do wash it make sure it is with a mild baby shampoo. Baby shampoo's do not strip the hair of all the natutal oils (that is why children's hair is always so soft).

Good luck!
