A Prayer Team for my Chicky Baby

Every once in a while, I feel like God is really speaking to me. I have spent the last week praying and seeking the Lord about Chicky Baby. (Caleb has named BabyGirl "Chicken). I have been asking how we should proceed. It is always a weird process to pray for an adoption to happen, especially through foster care. In order for us to adopt a child, it means that their biological parents, for whatever reason could not take care of them. That is a hard pill to swallow and humbles me on most days.

Throughout this week, God has been challenging me to build a team of pray-ers for Chicky Baby. Not just people who throw random wishes and hopes up to the heavens, but people who will be on their knees, seeking the Lord, and hearing His voice for us in this situation.

God has confirmed that it is indeed His desire that we pray that this adoption goes through.

First challenge: This week.....
-Chicky Baby is coming home today.
-Caleb will meet his chicken for the first time:)
-There is a court hearing this week.

So friends, if you want to join this prayer team, let me know. You will receive more  information than what is available on this blog.

My prayer for you my baby.

Cute video right?  I mean, come on. Cute kid. Kid who loves to dance naked?

This video is so much more than "cute." I want it to be truth that is in instilled on the heart of my baby boy.

"For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks." Matthew 12:34

My son, may you always speak words of wisdom and grace. May your tongue be slow and your ears be quick.

May you seek understanding before wanting to be understood.

May your words be filled with love.

May your lips speak the beauty of Christ.

May your speak scripture, because you have it memorized.

May your words be a treasure.

All because your heart, is passionately longing for the heart of Jesus.

Not here.

When one part of the body is broken we all are.  We may not know the details, but we know that something is wrong, that something is not working as it sure.

At first, it is hard to recognize it. We don't call it for what it is. We call it "brokenness." And it is. It is so broken. Sooner or later, we need to come from behind the facade of brokenness and call it for what it truly is.

Sin.

Ouch. The politically incorrect word. The word we must avoid.

And yet, when we avoid it, it gets deeper and deeper. What once started off as something attractive, is now becoming destructive and rearing its ugly head.

Take this piano for instance. In its hay day, it was used to lead others in musical worship on Sunday mornings. It was a tool that led people into God's presence. It was valuable.

As time passes, the piano gets left behind. It is no longer tuned regularly, or taken care of properly. It can no longer serve the purposes for what it was created to do.
Much like our sin. Once it gets a foothold in our lives, it takes root. It holds on and begins controlling us and making us do things that are against God's word. We do thing that are not glorifying to God and will in the end hurt us and our relationships.

l
Before we know it, the sin is getting bigger and bigger. It is becoming blatant and obvious to everyone around us. Sometimes we recognize is and sometimes it takes the words, observations and careful reflections of those who speak truth. Either way if we don't stop it, it start to control us rampantly. It is no longer just an ugly part of our life that is not bringing glory to God, but the ugly part is ruling our attitudes, thoughts and actions.

The gasoline has been poured.

The match has been lit.

Once the match is lit, everything catches fire, quickly. Even the parts that are not on fire are being affected. The wind blows, the air is filled with smoke, people are coughing, things are covered in soot. They may not even know where it all came from, or the cause of the fire, but they are surely being influenced by it. The fire cannot go unnoticed.
Before you know it, sin has overtaken, and we can no longer be what we were created to be.

We have been walking through some junk with some people. We have see sin take hold in lives and bring ruin.

Today, I became aware of  my own incredible, nasty, destructive sin. It doesn't look quite as ugly as a burning piano, but I know how quick of a leap this can be. Lord, stop it now! May my life bring You glory. I don't want to walk in disobedience.

When I see the sin creep up in my life, I want to stomp it out and walk away from it. I will shout from the roof tops...NO MORE, NOT HERE.   I will do battle on my knees.

Did you know?

That born-again Christians spend 7 more hours a week in front of the television or computer screen more than they do in Bible reading or prayer?

Wow.

No wonder we don't look like the Jesus we claim to follow. We will never look like Him if we don't know Him and we can never know Him if we don't spend time in His word and communing in prayer.

It is time for me to turn off this screen and enter into the presence of the Lord.

Peace out.

When I watch this video
I am
proud (of my staff team and their students)
wanting justice
heart broken
angry
hopeful
(that Jesus can use these students of this generation to stop modern day slavery)
broken
saddened
aware of my own sin and brokenness
reminded of why I love my job
reminded of why we need a Redeemer in this world

What could be better?

  • Than hearing from your social worker that the birth parents rights were terminated?
  • Than hearing from your social worker at 10am when normally you hear at 4:30?
  • Than hearing from your friend that she prayed specifically that we would hear an answer early in the day?
  • Than being able to have Jon off to celebrate with us?
  • Than to hug a friend in the afternoon because we had to park our car in her driveway?
  • Than to re-unite at the retinologist with 3 other babies that were in the same NICU as Caleb at the same time?
  • Than to hear that all of those babies are doing well?
  • Than to have a 2 hour wait in the doctors office, when last month it was closer to 5?
  • Than having a husband to surprise you with a chocolate chip cookie?
  • Than to hear that your child NEVER has to undergo the traumatic eye appointments?
  • Than to hear that your child's eyes are developing completely normal and should have no vision problems?
  • Than to hug a friend in a grocery store who is moving away on Friday?
  • Than to celebrate the days events with great friends and neighbors by having dinner and dessert together?
  • Than to hear your favorite neighbor children tell you that they have been praying that Caleb gets to stay with us?
  • Than to ask the bakery to write the following on a cake "Caleb is Home to Stay"
  • Than to hear from your gramma saying that she read all about Joshua and Caleb in her time in the Bible this morning?
  • Than to enjoy a nice cup of coffee and homemade pie?
  • Than to get to know a new couple from church?
  • Than receiving TONS of phone calls/text messages/facebook posts, etc letting me know that people have been praying and are now praising God!!

What could be better?
  • Than serving a God that is a father to the fatherless and who cares deeply and passionately for the orphans?
  • Than a God who cares so deeply about the desires of my heart?
What could be better?
  • Maybe if I was a little thinner in that picture above?

Yeah, my day was pretty good.

On the eve of the termination hearing

To those who think that I have had a great attitude about this adoption process,
To those who think that I have great faith,
To those who have admired a simple blog about our journey,
To those who think that they don't have the strength to go down such a journey,
To those who have prayed,
who have encouraged,
who have stood beside us,
who have cried with us and for us,
who have held our hands....

Tonight,
I
Need
You.

Tomorrow is the scheduled termination hearing, terminating the rights of the birth parents. I am nervous, anxious, sick to my stomach, scared, weeping, frozen, paralyzed.

I wish I could say that I have the faith to trust God, but I am praying in my unbelief.

I wish my husband didn't pray tonight, "Whatever happens tomorrow Lord, it will not change our decision to follow You." In my simple mind, that gives God permission to take Caleb from us. As if He needs permission. I am trying to remember the words we sang in church today, and know them to me be true..."He gives and takes away......Blessed be the name of the Lord." This is not just a song we sing, but a truth that we have to live by.

I wish I could skip Monday and wake up Tuesday morning and people could tell me how things turned out.

I feel like Moses. I need people on both sides of me holding my arms up during the battle, I do not have the strength to do it on my own. I need you to have faith for me. I need you to pray for me. I need you to pray for the hearing tomorrow. Pray that Caleb can stay with us.

Tonight, I am a weary warrior.

Use those knees

I have declared today...a day for prayer. The world around me is in desperate need for prayer and instead of feeling shocked, overwhelmed, emotional, I am simply going to pray. Here are some things I am praying for today:

-The US Supreme Court decision about campus ministries:
http://www.intervarsity.org/news/campus-ministry-threatened

-My colleagues at Ohio State University who are engaging in a HUGE outreach all week about modern day slavery. They will be engaging the campus in a week long dialogue about justice and how Jesus plays a role in bringing justice and redeeming the world. They have already had 100 new Christians this year and are praying for many many more this week.

-Adoption "stuff"

-Ministry at Albion College

-Some personal issues

What do you need prayer for today?
